Furness Controls Ltd is a privately owned British company established in 1963 and is a world renowned supplier of instrumentation for Process Control and Production line testing. Designed and manufactured at our Head Office in Bexhill, instruments are supplied and used throughout the world and across a wide range of industry sectors.

We are currently seeking a Technical Sales Engineer who will be responsible for a geographical area within the UK. This is a position which can be demanding and rewarding in equal measure and is likely to suit a self-motivated and driven individual who enjoys providing engineering based solutions to customer requirements.

The position includes responsibility for initial contact, engineering of solutions, preparation of proposals and quotations through to closure of sale and often commissioning of delivered instrumentation.

The successful candidate will sell our range of Production Leak Detection and Flow Measurement instruments. Comprehensive product and application training will be provided and will lead to the engineer essentially work from a home office and being responsible for planning of visits and activities. In order to provide efficient coverage of the customer base, this is likely to involve travel within the area and some nights spent away from home.

The ideal applicant is likely to be qualified to HNC or above with a proven engineering background and with the ability to communicate at all levels. A methodical approach to problem solving and reporting is considered a key skill alongside a desire to deliver.

Head of Calibration

  • Location: Bexhill, East Sussex, UK

Oversee the day to day running of all Furness Controls' calibration departments (including our French and German subsidaries).

Ensure all procedures and uncertainty budgets are maintained.

Prepare documentation for UKAS audits and ensure all non-compliances are corrected.

Provide support for calibration engineers with regard to existing calibration processes and new calibration devices.

Produce and maintain calibration procedures and accuracy statements for calibration standards and company products.

Promote and improve the profitability of all calibration services.

Required skills:

  • Ability to calculate uncertainty budgets for existing and future pressure, vacuum and flow calibration standards to a level that is required for UKAS certification.
  • Previous experience in managing a calibration laboratory with a good working knowledge of gas flow and pressure calibration.
  • Experience and strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO9001 with regard to a UKAS accredited calibration laboratory.
  • The ability to improve the quality of the company’s calibration laboratories in the UK, France and Germany.
  • To have good marketing skills to ensure that calibration is sold as a profitable product.

Technical Copywriter

Technical copywriting role at a successful industrial manufacturing company in the south east of England.

The role involves the creation of digital content for the web as well as and print content for literature such as sales brochures. It involves working closely with engineers to understand the technology of the company, and to write about it accurately and engagingly in order to showcase our products.

The successful applicant needs to demonstrate excellent team-working skills and attention to detail. As well as communication with engineers, the role will involve interaction with a graphic designer when designing document layouts, and with translation companies when content is required in other languages. The ability to create and modify documents in desktop publishing software such as Abobe InDesign is also necessary, as is familiarity with content management systems for websites.

Key Requirements

  • High standard of written English and the ability to write engagingly about technical subjects
  • A passion for engineering and the manufacturing industry
  • Proficiency with Adobe software packages including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
