Trigger Pumps

General
In response to environmental issues, the replacement of aerosol type containers with a more acceptable dispensing method has resulted in the development of sprays operated manually by a pump action. For these spray units to be fit for their purpose it is necessary for them to be leak tight to the product for which they are to be used. Typical are cleaning agents and liquids which are water based.

Due to the large number of these assemblies which are produced the time available for each test is minimal. Indeed the leak test can be the limit to the production rate.

Specification
In the test case the time available for each unit is 1 second, including loading and unloading. The assembly machine handling the product leaves 0.6 seconds for the leak test to be carried out. This test is made in the time available at a pressure of 600 mbar working to a leak rate of 20 mmH2O in 200 ms.

Equipment
To achieve sucha short test cycle, a fast cycle leak detector is required. The unit
developed for the application as a low volume transducer and valve block, short imers of 0.05 second intervals and rapid function relays. The reliability of these instruments has been proven in the many millions of cycles performed by these instrument each year.
